Bring Back Tea Time

This is an essay to plant the notion of reviving the tradition of having tea time. I am not proposing that we need a rigid time of day when we must have tea time.
I am however proposing that the need for a little relaxing time to sit and enjoy a cup of warm brewed tea. There are many benefits taking time to sip a cup of your favorite tea or herbal remedy. The most obvious, is the moment of relaxation and reflection of the days events and to enjoy the companionship of family or friends.

Sunday Essay: Dallas poet Robert Trammell marched to his own meter

Sunday Essay: Dallas poet Robert Trammell marched to his own meter
Robert Trammell, Dallas poet, died in May 2006 of cholangiocarcinoma, vulgarly known as cancer of the bile duct. That, at least, was the official cause of death. Some who knew Bob suspect that cancer was merely the proxy for the disease that actually killed him, the same disease that has been known to kill American writers and artists (and a great many others, too) – anxiety over money.

Help with my essay on drug abuse?

I have to write an essay on drug abuse. I’m in middle school BTW. Please help and tell me what you think. Here it is.

I know what you thinking. Oh, great. Another ‘Drugs are bad! ‘, Speech. But even if you have your doubts, they’re more important then you know!
Now I’m going to talk about different types of drugs. For instance, Marijuana is actually very popular. You would probably know it by ‘weed ‘, ‘pot’, and ‘grass’. But guess what? It’s illegal! Bad. Being caught having the drug can very easily lead you to jail. Here’s a fun fact. In 2006, 25 million Americans age 12 and older had abused marijuana at least once in the year prior to being surveyed. A survey showed that 10.3% of 8th graders, 24.6% of 10th graders, and 31.7% of 12th graders had abused marijuana at least once in the year. Just think, a kid in your class could be on drugs. Just think, that’s just ONE drug. Let’s take a look at Nicotine. Nicotine is the drug in tobacco leaves. One pure drop could kill someone! Nicotine is in cigarettes. It is also chewed, spit, and sniffed as Tobacco. More than 3 and one-half million teens between the ages of 12 and 17 use tobacco-that’s about 15 percent of teens that age. Of those, just over 3 million, or 13 percent, smoke cigarettes. In the U.S., 66.5 million people, or about 29 percent of the population, use tobacco. Wow. Even I had that face of shock when I read that. I’m eleven, almost twelve. And to know that twelve year olds use tobacco? Drugs. Six years ago they were in kindergarten playing house, or tag! I’m going to talk about another common drug called Steroids. Steroids are used to build muscles. Great huh? Get some killer abs, impress the girls . . . Lets see the side effects, eh? Acne, stunt in growth, high blood pressure, trembling, and a rare liver disease. For girls, they can grow facial hair, baldness and a deepened voice. For guys, a type of cancer, and development of breasts. Behavior can include mood swings. Thankfully, few teens have used steroids. Most teens are smart and stay away from steroids. As part of a 2008 survey teens were asked if they ever tried steroids—even once. Only 1.4% of 8th and 10th graders ever tried steroids and 2.2% of 12th graders. However, among those who do abuse them steroid abuse is higher among males than females but is growing most rapidly among young women. Abuse is also well known to occur in a number of professional sports, including fields such as bodybuilding and baseball.
Now I am going to talk about how addictive drugs are. One hit. Oh, it’s no big deal. Before you know it you take another hit. Eh. Third hit . . . you’re hooked. Drugs are very addictive. Most commonly cigarettes are. Patches and medicine have been suggested, but they can fail quite easily. So? You might be wondering, why don’t they just quit? Here’s the thing . . . They CAN’T! Nicotine for example, is highly addictive. Your body begins to need it. Do you remember when you had to break the habit of depending on your pacifier? Or sucking your thumb? Picking your nose? Biting your nails? Even picking at a scab. Drug abuse becomes a HABIT. You begin to DEPEND on it. You begin to NEED it. To feel good. Most abused drugs produce intense feelings of pleasure. This initial sensation of euphoria is followed by other effects, which differ with the type of drug used. For example, with stimulants such as cocaine, the “high” is followed by feelings of power, self-confidence, and increased energy. To feel better. Some people who suffer from social anxiety, stress-related disorders, and depression begin abusing drugs in an attempt to lessen feelings. To do better. The increasing pressure that some individuals feel to chemically enhance or improve their athletic or cognitive performance. Curiosity and “because others are doing it.” In this respect adolescents are particularly vulnerable because of the strong influence of peer pressure. These are all some reason people take drugs.
Now I’m going to tell you some ways to tell if someone is abusing drugs. If a person fits under this category, I suggest you talk to person, or contact a parent, family member, or even the school principal. Physical Signs: Change in sleeping patterns ,Bloodshot eyes Slurred or agitated speech, Sudden or dramatic weight loss or gain, Skin abrasions/bruises, Neglected appearance/poor hygiene, Sick more frequently ,Accidents or injuries, Behavioral Signs: Hiding use; lying and covering up, Sense that the person will “do anything” to use again regardless of consequences ,Loss of control or choice of use (drug-seeking behavior), Loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities, Emotional instability, Hyperactive or hyper-aggressive, Depression , Missing school or work, Failure to fulfill responsibilities at school or work, Complaints from teachers or co-workers, Reports of intoxication at school or work, Furtive or secretive behavior, Avoiding eye contact, Locked doors, Going out every night, Change in friends

Some one please read my college admission essay it’s private so i cant have anyone read it?

It’s the first essay that i have to write and it’s for University of texas at austin, and it’s about someone who has impacted your life…

He arrived in the United States to pursue higher education with little money, no background of the English language, and no understanding of U.S. culture. Kevin is a close family friend and a person I’ve known all my life. He has had an incredible impact on me, and I’ve learned a lot from him.
When Kevin first arrived he had a lack of money that left him working any job he could find and even had him sleeping in his car for a short period. Kevin’s hard work paid off and he found a wife and started a family. His mother and father immigrated to the U.S. shortly after and he had to provide for them as well.
Kevin soon found success and had a beautiful family. He became self employed and a successful business man, but even with his newfound success he never forgot his humble beginnings. In fact as long as I’ve known him, I’ve never once thought Kevin to be pretentious. Everything seemed to be going fairly well for him, but this would all soon come crashing down on him.
Kevin always makes sure that his family and friends are okay before anything else, and he proved that to me when his mother became ill and diagnosed with brain cancer. Kevin completely stopped working to take care of his mother when he could of easily hired someone else to take care of her, but he wanted to because he believed it was the right thing to do. He bathed, fed, and cleaned up after her, I can only imagine the patience that he had to have and how stressful that must have been for him. Kevin already had his pate full with his mother and at the worst possible timing his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. After his mother passed away he didn’t have any time to grief over the loss, he was busy taking care of his wife.
Since our families are good friends I had a chance to witness and experience how he took care how he took care of his wife, one time even shaving his own head because his wife was going bald as a result of the medication. He did everything he could to take care of his wife but she lost the inevitable battle with cancer and passed away. Her untimely death must have been inconceivably difficult for Kevin to deal with but he tried his hardest to handle the death of his wife well and be strong for his friends and family. Now he had to deal with the arduous challenge of working and being a single father of his three children.
After a long period of grief and depression, Kevin got his life back on track after about seven long agonizing years of taking care of his mother and wife. He had a steady girl friend for a little over two years and everything was going well. Kevin has never had an easy life and has had to struggle for everything, and after two years of peace, there was no exception. His girl friend died tragically in a car accident, and Kevin was devastated at the seemingly consecutive loss of three incredibly important people in his life. He had a downward spiral into depression and alcoholism that left him helpless. Luckily Kevin had enough friends and my family was there to help him out of the hole he was digging himself into. It was a hard time for him but he never stopped being there for his friends and family. Soon after he overcame his alcoholism life settled down for Kevin and he is now living a much more calm life. He still faces his share of challenges, but over all his life has improved over the recent years.
Kevin has had a tremendous impact on my life and has defiantly helped shape the person that I am today. One thing that I experienced first hand from watching Kevin go through all his hardships is that life is never easy, especially more so for some of us then others. Most importantly though what I learned from Kevin is that no matter what cards life deals you, you have to carry on and still try your best to help others, do the right thing, and never back down or give up. Kevin is also completely selfless and would do anything for anyone who needed it, and that has taught me to be more generous and benevolent. I’m also impressed by his humbleness and this has taught me humility. Also Kevin’s success has inspired me to work hard and try my best to get a great education so that I can have a successful career. All in all Kevin’s character is impeccable and I don’t know anyone who is as genuine as him. I will be lucky to grow up one day and be half the person that Kevin is.
Life has never been easy for Kevin, striving for everything that he has. I do not think if I went to a completely foreign country with nothing I would not experience the success that Kevin has experienced, nor would I have the same qualities that he has. Even though I mentioned earlier that he is a family friend, he isn’t he is a family member. I chose not to say that until now because I admire Kevin for the man that he is, not because he is my father.
some one please read this, I really need some input and it would really really really help me
