Lifestyle Changes Can Prevent Cancer

Research has shown that as many as 40% of all types of cancer in the world could be prevented by changing your diet, getting adequate exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight.  Since cigarette smoking causes 30% of all other cancers worldwide, lifestyle changes including quitting smoking could prevent as many as 70% of all incidence of cancer on a global scale.  Moreover, the incidence of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, arthritis and even hypertension, just to name a few, could be prevented by some simple changes in your daily life.  Serious commitments to make these adjustments would save a lot of heartache, misery and premature deaths and would simultaneously put an end to the health care debate in this country.

Your Diet Matters

Your diet is the most important change you can make in relation to cancer prevention.  Research shows that populations which consume 5 to 6 servings of fruits and vegetables daily have a far lower rate of many types of cancers.  The antioxidants found in these living foods have the ability to knock out cancer before it starts.  Fruits and vegetables are loaded with the essential cancer fighting vitamins, A, C, and E as well as beta-carotene.  All this together with the high fiber content make it hard for a poor cancer cell to find any real estate in which to thrive.

Most of us have heard that tomato products serve as powerful prostate cancer preventitives in men, but don’t forget the benefits of  soy products, green tea, and selenium rich foods as super colon cancer inhibitors.

The key is a low fat diet which fruits and vegetables provide perfectly.  Certainly animal fat must be avoided at all costs if you want to have the best chance of living your life cancer free.  It should not be a secret at this late date that a diet high in fiber, fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, and legumes is just what the doctor ordered in the fight against cancer, heart disease and a host of other fearful infirmities.  If you or someone you know is not yet aware of the massive amounts of research that prove that your diet matters, you should make every effort to become informed because it truly is a matter of life and death.

Some of the American Cancer Societies recommendations to reduce the risk of cancer are:

-Stick to a mostly plant-based diet and get a minimum of 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
-consume whole grains as opposed to refined grains or processed sugar.
-Stay away from high fat foods especially animal flesh and their by-products.
-Get adequate physical exercise.
-Limit alcohol consumption.
-Don’t smoke… Period.

Breast Cancer

Since this is breast cancer awareness month I should add a couple of do’s to the above list just for women:

-Do add walnuts to your shopping cart.
-Do get flax-seed meal into your diet.  This is truly a wonder food.
-Do get at least 1000 IU of vitamin D or more each day.  If you are timid regarding sun exposure then it is imperative that you take a good supplement.
-Do drink plenty of green tea.
-Do eat plenty of fiber
-Do get plenty of folic acid.
-Do add soy to your diet.  There is not one conclusive report that suggests soy is responsible for breast cancer rates going up, but there is ample documented evidence that it in fact it  substantially lowers breast cancer rates especially after long term consumption.
-Do drink plenty of water.
-Do stay active and exercise.

 It’s Simple

Nothing that has been written in this article is an unbearable task to accomplish.  Granted, triple by-pass surgery might be just a bit easier since all you have to do during the operation is lay there, but certainly if you do live to tell about it you will be instructed to implement these lifestyle changes as soon as you are able to walk on your own.

As a former heavy smoker I will admit that cigarettes can be very difficult to “just say no” to, but  which one of the other healthy suggestions mentioned above is so monumental?  Even smoking can be dealt with if you just realize that you are going to have a pretty rough time for the first 10 days.  After that it will get progressively easier and will be a non issue after 30 days.  Certainly you can do anything you really put your mind to for a mere 10 days and trust me the cravings will significantly and progressively diminish after this period.  Relax, you can do this!

Please don’t wait until your loved ones are at your hospital bedside doing another night long vigil of crying and praying, before you have a change of heart and decide to make some modifications in the way you do things.  It is not a matter of all or nothing either.  Take some baby steps if you have to, but just start moving in the right direction.  Like the tortoise and the hare, you will reach your goal if you keep plodding along.  I implore you dear reader to begin to practice some or all of these lifestyle changes  before it is too late.  If you don’t have the motivation to do it for yourself, then please do it for the ones who love you.  They will be glad you did…

About the Author:

I am passionate about health issues, and the state of the health of our wonderful America. I believe the American Diet is literally killing us and I believe that lobby money is the reason that we have been brainwashed into the shift from a plant based diet to an animal based diet. The result has been an unprecedented increase in heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and cancers of all varieties. I believe Americans are suffering from a lack of truthful information concerning our diets. I enjoy writing motivational articles that will help to correct the problem regarding this lack of information and also examine the prevailing misinformation in the light of truth.

Few words produce a fear factor for women as the words “breast cancer”. Diet and Cancer Research

Of the many diseases that affect people these days, cancer is among the most feared. But despite a wealth of scientific data, most people remain unaware of how they can reduce their risk of developing cancer. All the evidence points to a low-fat, high-fiber diet that includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans, as being the best for cancer prevention. Not surprisingly, vegetarians, whose diets easily meet these requirements, are at the lowest risk for cancer.

Healthy Diet Program Helps In Losing Weight

The human body contains around seventy-five percent water. Knowing this, a best diet plan should incorporate foods containing enormous quantities of this fluid. A lot of food store rows having canned or bagged food products usually contain no to little water. Even worse, a lot of these food products for example salty chips, greasy brownies and sugary cereals typically possess little or no nutrition as well as may lead to excess pounds.

Are Physicician’s Relationships To Pharmaceutical Companies Unhealthy For Their Patients? (PartTwo)

In my last article I focused on the huge incentives that pharmaceutical companies invest to win the loyalty of virtually all physicians in this country (94%). I also stated that research indicates that these perks play a major role in influencing the prescription practices of most doctors regardless of the best interest of the patient.

Are Physicician’s Relationships To Pharmaceutical Companies Unhealthy For Their Patients? (Part One)

The New England Journal of Medicine reports that 94% of all physicians receive some sort of compensation from drug companies. These incentives may be in the form of food and beverages in the workplace, free drug samples, reimbursements for professional meetings or their continuing medical education, and direct payments for consulting, speaking, or enrolling patients in trials or studies. Such gifts and payments have a direct influence on the physician’s ability to make sound medical decisions.

Health Care In America — The Treatment Of Illness Without Regard For Prevention — The Battle Is All But Lost

Most doctors in America spend the whole of their practices treating symptoms. The emphasis is continually on treating the disease after it occurs. Nearly every penny of every dollar spent on health care in America goes towards treating illness, and almost nothing goes towards preventing the illness in the first place. In this writer’s view, this is nothing short of insanity.

Type 2 Diabetes Is Not A Lifetime Disease — Be Completely Healed Forever Through Dietary Changes

I know that the title of my article seems almost blasphemous, but the only reason it resonates with you in such a way is because your life is owed to the big food and drug business, pharmaceutical companies, and doctors who’s desire it is to keep you on medication (that which they sell) for the rest of your life. You are not a fool for giving your life savings to these high powered doctors and organizations (their advertising campaigns lead you to believe that they are your last hope)

Genetically Modified Foods — Americans Should Be Very Concerned

Genetically modified foods, or genetically modified organisms (GMO’S) are now a very real part of your diet whether you know it or not. If you eat corn, cornmeal, cornstarch, corn oil or other corn based ingredients, soybeans, soy milk, tofu, soybean oil, and other soybean based products, canola oil, cottonseed oil, sugar beets, papaya from Hawaii, and some zucchini, and yellow squash, then genetically modified foods are making up a significant percentage of your overall food consumption.

Why America Loves Processed Food And Hates Raw Vegetables – We Need To Re-Program Our Taste Buds

Most of us have vivid memories of our mother’s admonishing us to eat our vegetables. And according to my recollection, I hated them. Actually in retrospect I don’t believe I hated vegetables, but I did hate the concoction that posed as vegetables which ended up on my plate. Certainly they weren’t lovely, fresh, organic vegetables with all of their textures and colors in tact. What ended up on my plate were taken out of a plastic bag of frozen vegetables, boiled until they were rather slimy

Free Radicals and Antioxidants

Free radicals are atoms or molecules with unpaired electrons. They are the reason for tissue damage in our bodies, many diseases, and they are the main culprits behind premature aging. These bad molecules are exceptionally volatile, so they seek to attach themselves to other molecules, which ultimately cancels their vitality and bolsters this disadvantageous process. Antioxidants on the other hand are the good molecules found in various foods and they actually put a halt to the process…
