Natural Health Therapies and Cancer – Part II

This article is part of a series on Natural Health Therapies and Cancer. The material presented is meant to inform you of complementary cancer therapies that are available in the medical community. These therapies are to be used in cooperation with other cancer treatment methods. They are not meant to be done in place of your physician’s care. In the last article, we covered the basics of cancer – what it is, what causes it, what are its various types and stages. This article will focus on the aspect of Dietary Changes and Nutritional Supplements as a form of cancer therapy.

Aside from tobacco and smoking, there is no greater factor for triggering and promoting cancer than diet and nutrition. When used correctly, diet and nutrition are also the factors that have the highest ability to reverse cancer. According to the National Academy of Sciences, 40% of all cancer in men may be directly related to diet. The statistics are even worse for women; 60% of all cancers in women may be linked to nutritional factors.

As I’ve pointed out in other articles, what we eat is important to our health. Equally important is what we don’t eat. Our society has turned from a natural, raw food diet to a highly processed and refined diet. The average American meal consists of high-fat, high-protein, low-fiber foods in oversized portions. Our fast-paced society even calls some of them a ‘Value Meal.’ Where’s the value? The nationwide increase in cancer has been parallel to the decline in our eating habits.

Several areas of our society’s diet are excessive. In clinical studies, these excesses have been found to significantly increase cancer risks. The key sections of the American diet that contribute to cancer are:

· Excessive intake of animal protein (meat, cheese, dairy) – can increase the risk for cancer in the breast, colon, pancreas, kidney, prostate, and endometrium; certain preparation and cooking techniques (such as pickling, smoking, frying) add to the cancer risks; fatty meats contain higher levels of carcinogenic pesticides

· Intake of contaminated fish – mercury, nickel, oil, and PCBs found in many marketplace fish; 1/10 of a teaspoon of PCBs is enough to cause illness or cancer

· Excessive fat intake – can increase risk for cancer of the breast, colon, rectum, uterus, prostate, and kidney; partially hydrogenated vegetable oils are considered major problems along with insufficient intake of healthy Omega-3 fats

· Excessive intake of refined carbohydrates and table sugar – lowers immune system function; elevates insulin levels (which can promote breast cancer); tumors thrive in a high-glucose environment

· Excessive intake of iron – associated with red meat, fortified breads and pastas; cooking in iron pots and skillets can add to your iron exposure

· Excessive intake of alcohol – can increase risk for cancer in the breast, mouth, throat, pancreas, liver, head and neck; alcohol suppresses Natural Killer cells that help repel cancer

· Excessive intake of caffeine – cancer rates are higher for those who drink more than 3 cups of coffee a day; caffeine can cause DNA damage, adding to cancer risk

Although it looks like our diets doom us to destruction, there are steps we can take to reduce the cancer risk. Here are some ways to combat and prevent cancer through some simple changes in your diet –

· Eat more fruits and vegetables

· Drink green tea, fresh juices

· Eat nuts, seeds, legumes

· Avoid all red meats, dairy products, eggs and shellfish

· Avoid refined, sugary foods

· Avoid caffeine and alcohol

· Avoid all vegetable oils especially hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils

· Use olive, pumpkin seed, flaxseed, walnut, and sesame oils

· Avoid margarine, fried foods, creamy sauces and dressings

· Eat salmon, halibut, red snapper, and flounder for healthy Omega-3 fats

· Avoid cooking in iron or aluminum cookware

· Use stainless steel or glass cookware

· Avoid microwave use, particularly with plastic containers

· Eat organically-grown foods when possible

More advanced nutritional therapies include Vegan and Macrobiotic diets. These nutritional

regimens consist of raw, natural foods and specific food preparation techniques. These diets are used to help cleanse the digestive system, allowing the elimination of excessive toxins.

Nutritional supplements can play a major role in cancer prevention and cancer therapy. There are many different approaches being practiced successfully. For example, antioxidants, such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Alpha-Lipoic-Acid combat the free radical damage associated with cancer. Sea vegetables such as kombu are linked to a lower breast cancer rate in Japanese women. Garlic appears to boost the Natural Killer cell function and block cancer cells in the bloodstream. Certain types of digestive enzymes can be used to break down the protective coating on certain cancer cells. Minerals such as selenium, magnesium, calcium, and zinc are also used in varying dosages for certain cancer therapies.

As you may know, my PhD research is on the connection between nutrition and health. I’m concentrating on the importance of 8 basic carbohydrates called glyconutrients that help the cells communicate properly. ‘Glyco’ means sugar and these 8 simple sugars are involved in every cell interaction. The relatively new scientific field of glycobiology is making amazing discoveries on the impact of these simple sugars on our health. The studies show that many of these glyconutritional sugars, such as fucose, inhibit growth and/or tumor cell metastasis in certain cancers. The inhibition of cancer growth by glyconutritional sugars, such as mannose, appears to be partially related to immune system activation of Natural Killer cells, the white blood cell that destroys cancer cells. Research also demonstrates that glyconutritional sugars appear to inhibit tumor cell metastasis by preventing the attachment of tumor cells to normal cells. They do this by competing for glyconutritional sugar binding sites on the cell surfaces.

I personally know individuals that have had outstanding results against cancer with the use of these nutrients. Various glyconutrients are traditionally found in mother’s breast milk, pectin from apples and oranges, specific types of mushrooms, and limu. However, most of these glyconutrients are not in our diets. Luckily, our bodies can manufacture many of these nutrients through a lengthy metabolic process. Unfortunately, the effects of stress, medications, and other environmental factors make this process difficult and prone to errors. For that reason as well as the nutrition lost from the over-processing of our foods, the only way to insure that you get all 8 glyconutrients is through nutritional supplements. For additional information on glyconutritional supplements, you may also refer to material posted at www.glycoscience.com or at www.glycoinformation.com. You can also research these nutrients on PubMed under glycobiology or by name of the sugar such as fucose, mannose, etc.

A couple of good books for Cancer and Nutrition that I recommend are:

Beating Cancer with Nutrition by Patrick Quillin, Ph.D., and Director of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America.

Options: The Alternative Cancer Therapy Book by R. Walters

Alternatives in Cancer Therapy by R. Pelton and L. Overholser

Sugars that Heal by Dr. Emil Mendoa, MD

Natural healing: use the sun reduce cancer risk

For years now we have been exhorted to avoid the sun, to cover up and to use sun screen so we can avoid getting skin cancer. However unfortunately it looks as though we have thrown the baby out with the bathwater. We desperately need some sun on our skin to make vitamin D, and a lot more of it than the doctors and health people have been recommending for a long time.

We have known for years that we need vitamin D and calcium for strong bones and the recommended vitamin D levels were set when the major concern was to avoid rickets in children. Later vitamin D became a concern because older people were developing osteoporosis and needed to strengthen their bones to see them through their old age.

Vitamin D is usually metabolized by the body from sunlight but in these days of “slip, slop, slap” of sunscreen, too many of us are now avoiding the sun when we should be reveling in it for at least a few hours each week – but do be careful, we still want to avoid getting burnt.

Most people are now vitamin D deficient and this is having a terrible consequence. We are finding more and more diseases which are made worse by lack of vitamin D. A range of cancers are made more likely by a lack of vitamin D, as is multiple sclerosis and diabetes.

An article in the Annals of Epidemiology, published early in 2009 said that women who had high levels of Vitamin D had less than half the chance of getting breast cancer and only one quarter the chance of dying from it than those who had the lowest levels.

Think about that for a moment. The journal article suggests a woman can cut their risk of getting breast cancer by more than half? And their chance of dying of it by three quarters? Why are we not hearing that being trumpeted from the roof tops?

One of the problems is that medicine has got itself caught up in a mess – a research mess. Medicine has developed a good way of working out whether a drug will improve outcomes. However most research is done by drug companies but because there isn’t a large profit to be made it just isn’t worth it to them. In addition most of the research and medical agenda has been hijacked by the drug companies so that even when a non-drug, natural activity or supplement is found to be useful there is a strong inertia in the medical profession to taking it up.

It is time to take responsibility for your own health and get out in the sun or go get some Vitamin D3 from your local pharmacist as almost everyone in the developed world is now deficient. You need 2000IU per day as a minimum. However next time you go to see your family physician or go to have a blood test then ask for a Vitamin D blood test as some people have very low levels and need to have higher doses of Vitamin D than 2000IU daily to get their levels up to a reasonable level quickly.

P.S. If you are still worried about the skin cancer problem then think on this: skin cancer kills some 1600 people a year in Australia. This is not good. But lack of vitamin D kills over 3000 people a year from breast cancer in Australia and over 4000 people a year from colorectal cancer. This is much worse.

What Is The Largest Natural Breast Size In The World – Bizarre Breast Facts

What Is The Largest Natural Breast Size In The World

Women may think of their breasts as nothing more than a body part that excites men. And who can blame them? The male fascination with female breasts is as old as the stars themselves. However, there’s a lot more to discover and learn about them. Breasts have their own colorful history and their own share of interesting and odd facts. To see what I mean, here’s a collection of breast trivia from the Clevastin natural breast enhancement system:

The late French porn star Lolo Ferrari is credited as having the world’s largest breast implants. During her lifetime, she had 22 surgeries to make her breasts 73 inches round!

Although rare, men also develop breast cancer. This occurs in men between the ages of 60 and 70. Risk factors include aging, exposure to radiation, a family history of the disease, heavy alcohol intake, obesity, lack of exercise, high estrogen levels, and those who work in hot environments. This year, the American Cancer Society estimates that 2,030 new cases will be diagnosed among men. In the United Kingdom, there are 300 new cases of male breast cancer yearly.

A study supposedly published in the New England Journal of Medicine said that staring at women’s breasts for just 10 minutes a day can improve a man’s health and add four to five years to his life. The German study was carried out by a certain Dr. Karyn Weatherby who said that ogling at busty beauties is equivalent to a 30-minute aerobics workout. She said this gets the heart pumping and improves blood circulation, cutting the risk of stroke and heart attack by half! What Is The Largest Natural Breast Size In The World

The Milky Way Galaxy is so named because the ancient Greeks thought it was made from drops of milk from the breasts of the Greek goddess Hera.

A survey made by bra maker Triumph found that British women have the biggest boobs in Europe. More than half the women in that country wear a size D cup or larger. Denmark scored second while Holland was third. On the other hand, Italian women had the smallest breasts where 68 percent had a size B, the same survey said. But don’t lose hope. Researchers said breast size has been increasing in the Western world for the past 10 – 15 years.

Ironically, British women don’t appreciate their big breasts. Journalist Mike Adams reports in NewsTarget.com that a poll of 1,500 women there and in five other countries revealed that 22 percent of women would gladly have their breasts removed if that would help them prevent breast cancer! Ouch!

In Hong Kong, you can get a degree in Bra Studies from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University where they teach you how to design and build a bra. Recently, the students exhibited their designs at the ACE Style Institute of Intimate Apparel at the ITC Resource Centre.

If you have saggy breasts, don’t fret. Catch a plane to Iceland next year and join the alternative beauty contest in Isafjoerdur that celebrates body imperfections. The contest is open to both men and women aged 20 and above who have not undergone cosmetic surgery. It hopes to change the Western world’s concept of beauty. The first pageant was held in April 18 this year. What Is The Largest Natural Breast Size In The World

Natural Health Therapies and Cancer ? Part One

Cancer. The word itself is alarming. It sounds like a death sentence. In many cases, it is. But it doesn’t necessarily have to be that way. The topic of cancer is so large that we will take at least three or four articles to even begin to touch on the main points. Like any other illness, the more you know about it, the better you’ll be able to deal with it. For example, how much did you know about your own health issues before they touched your life personally? What would you have done differently in your life if you knew that it would prevent the problem from happening? Would you have been willing to make the changes? I imagine that you would. You have that opportunity with cancer. In a series of articles, we’ll cover not only the natural health therapies for cancer but the lifestyle changes that help prevent cancer as well.

The increase in the rate of cancer is amazing. A hundred years ago, 1 in 33 people had cancer; today, 1 in 3 people either have cancer or will develop it. Statistics show that one American life is lost to cancer every 45 seconds. There is no other topic in medicine that has such urgency. So, exactly what is cancer? Basically, it is nature gone overboard. Healthy cells stop functioning properly for a variety of reasons and then begin to reproduce damaged copies of themselves. The natural process of cells multiplying becomes accelerated because these new mutant cells are not regulated by the body’s normal controls. In addition, the life span of these cells is not controlled any longer, meaning that cancer cells become virtually immortal.

There are types and stages of cancer. Of the 150 different types of cancer, there are 5 major groups:

• Carcinomas – solid tumors from cells in the surface of the mouth, nose, throat, lung airways, skin, GI tract, GU tract, breast, and thyroid. Lung, prostate, stomach, skin, colon, and breast cancers are in this type.

• Sarcomas – solid tumor from bones, fat, and other soft tissues such as muscles, tendons, abdomen, heart, central nervous system, and blood vessels. These are the most rare and most deadly of solid tumors.

• Leukemias – a blood-borne cancer type characterized by an abnormal production of white blood cells.

• Lymphomas – solid masses of abnormal white blood cells concentrated in the lymph system. Examples of this type of cancer include Hodgkin’s disease and non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas.

• Myelomas – rare tumors from antibody-producing or blood cell-producing areas in the bone marrow.

Cancer is often described by what stage it is in. Staging in cancer refers to a scale used to determine amount of cancer, its location, size, and degree of containment. The four different levels listed below describe the stages of cancer.

• Stage I – earliest, most curable stage. Local tumor only.

• Stage II – some spreading of cancer to surrounding tissue and maybe nearby lymph nodes.

• Stage III – involves spreading to distant lymph nodes

• Stage IV – most advanced, least easily cured. Cancer has spread to distant organs.

Why do some people get cancer and others don’t? What is the trigger that turns these healthy cells into mutants? What causes cancer? There are at least 33 contributing causes, according to various researchers. Each of these factors could be an article in itself so I’ll just provide you with the list for now. With this information, you can easily research these contributing items to increase your cancer knowledge. The factors that can contribute to cancer are:

1. Sunlight

2. Nuclear Radiation

3. Pesticide/Herbicide Residues

4. Industrial Toxins

5. Polluted Water

6. Tobacco and Smoking

7. Chronic Electromagnetic Field Exposure

8. Hormone Therapies

9. Immune-Suppressive Drugs

10. Irradiated Foods

11. Food Additives

12. Mercury Toxicity

13. Dental Factors

14. Chronic Stress

15. Depressed Thyroid Action

16. Intestinal Toxicity and Digestive Impairment

17. Parasites

18. Viruses

19. Diet and Nutritional Deficiencies

20. Nerve Interference Fields

21. Toxic Emotions

22. Blocked Detoxification Pathways

23. Chlorinated Water

24. Fluoridated Water

25. Ionizing Radiation

26. Geopathic Stress

27. Sick Building Syndrome

28. Free Radicals

29. Cellular Oxygen Deficiency

30. Cellular Terrain

31. Oncogenes

32. Genetic Predisposition

33. Miasm

Now that we have a little background knowledge on cancer, we will begin to cover a wide range of clinically proven natural health therapies that can be helpful for people with various forms of cancer. Each of these types of complementary medicine has a wealth of scientific research available for review, thanks to the ongoing research of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In addition, each of the therapies is currently available through physicians with outstanding medical backgrounds. The bottom line is that all of the cancer therapies that I will discuss in the next few articles are valid and have been documented in scientific literature.

In upcoming articles, we will explore the use of the following methods for cancer therapy supported by scientific evidence:

• Nutrition – Dietary changes and Anti-Cancer Nutritional Supplements

• Anti-Cancer Herbal Supplements

• Innovative Anti-Cancer Substances

• Physical Support Therapies – Detoxification, Biological Dentistry, Water Therapy, Heat Therapy, Bodywork/Therapeutic Massage/Exercise, Qi Gong

• Energy Support Therapies – Electrodermal Screening, Magnetic Therapy, Light Therapy

In closing, please remember that early detection and prevention is the key to beating cancer. Here are the 8 Early Warning Signs for Cancer. If you experience any of these signs or symptoms, contact your physician immediately.

1. A Lump in the Breast or Testicles.

2. A Change in a Wart or Mole.

3. A Skin Sore or Sore Throat that Does Not Heal.

4. A Change in Bowel or Bladder Habits.

5. A Persistent Cough or Coughing Blood.

6. Constant Indigestion or Trouble Swallowing
