Program Gives New Cancer Patients Personal Guide

By the end of the day, another 4000 people will be told they have cancer. While hearing those words can be difficult, it’s often just the beginning. Patients then have to find doctors who can treat them, fill out dozens of forms so they can, and choose from several different treatment options. It can be overwhelming, which is why a new study is underway to see if personal treatment guides can help.

Hire a Personal Trainer Keep Breast Cancer at Bay

Obesity and the occurrence of breast cancer have been found to be connected in many cases by scientists in the recent past. Although, the direct relationship is still under some cloud, research shows that fat cells store estrogens which are hormones that trigger tumors and breast cancers. Almost 30% of breast cancer cases are caused by obesity and a bad lifestyle. A personal trainer would help improve the overall health awareness and the importance of striving towards a healthy lifestyle.

A lot of research has been conducted on women with breast cancer in the recent years. One of the more important parameters was the body mass index or the co-relation between weight and height of a woman. Women with body mass index of more than 30 are considered to be obese, while those around 25-29 are considered overweight. Women with breast cancer and a body mass index more than 30 had a survival chance of only around 55% while it was found to be more than 65% for women with normal weight. Hence it is advisable for women with higher body mass index to hire a personal trainer and ensure they are not overweight, to keep breast cancer at bay.

One of the main cancer causing compounds called Xenestrogens is stored by the fat cells of obese women. This estrogen-like compound usually results from pollution in the environment and resides in the extra fat cells thus proving dangerous for the person. Women who have experienced menopause are more likely to develop breast cancer. The body hormone levels of estrogen and testosterone are high during this period and overweight doubles the risk that such women have of acquiring breast cancer. Obesity also reduces the chances of a woman surviving any form of major surgery. Other forms of analysis suggest that an increased number of fat cells lead to delay in detection of breast cancer which is likely to be discovered at a much later time, when it is practically less treatable.

Obesity and a greater number of fat cells increase the chances of breast cancer in those who dont have it and reduce the chances of survival in those who already have it. Hiring a personal trainer is a good step in the right direction. A personal trainer will ensure that the extra calories are burnt out and that the fat cell content in the body is optimum. This will avoid storage of estrogen and other tumor causing hormones in the very least. A personal trainer will also keep a tab on the diet of the person. Bad diet and unhealthy lifestyles are two important causes of obesity and bringing in discipline in ones eating habits and eliminating inactivity is extremely important.

Another form of breast cancer known as inflammatory breast cancer is even more dangerous because it is more likely to spread to other parts of the body even before it is diagnosed and detected. Its survival rates are hence low, proving to be especially dangerous for obese women. In this form of breast cancer, the cancer cells block the lymph vessels. This causes the skin of the breast to look swollen and red. Healthy women have 15% chance of acquiring it while the chances double for overweight women and treble for obese women. It has also been found out that women who gained a lot of pounds after turning 18 are more likely to develop breast cancer compared to those who havent put on any weight.

Since obesity leads to breast cancer and in most cases reduces the chances of surviving it, it is extremely important that women take all the advice from a personal trainer to ensure that they dont gain unhealthy weight increasing their body mass index and leading to one form or the other of breast cancer.

Avoid Cancer Through Personal Care

Trends have shown that the coverage media is giving to the disease focuses more on treatments and not on prevention. As with any disease, prevention is the key and avoiding the disease or preventing one from contracting it outweighs the need for treatment. Media should bring more light into the need for measures such as the administration of the HPV vaccines which greatly decreases the risk of getting the disease in later life. A survey of several newspapers showed that over a two-year period, more than 200 stories have been published regarding the disease with only 18% of those total articles focusing on prevention. The amounts of preventive measures abound yet not many know enough.

The disease is preventable as with most forms of disease with enough knowledge and effort it can be avoided; if people would just take time to learn the ways of how to prevent the disease then we wouldn’t have to present the numbers of fatalities and disfigured women from the whole country as much. Scientists have come up with many forms of treatments for the disease but scientists warn that their ability to provide cures can never outweigh the importance of prevention. The stories are quite sad and people feel that the life changing disease is out to get them, what they don’t know is that there are several methods of reducing risk and getting regular screenings is one of them so any changes can be diagnosed and prescribed proper treatment. Media sees the sad story as more sellable than the ones regarding high-risk people who are doing great because they are eating and living healthy. A healthy person is not much of a story but somebody who is suffering from the disease has a higher market affecting readership.

MicroRNA has been found to have regulatory in many cancer-related processes in the human body that researchers in Israel are capitalizing on as a sure way of detecting squamous and non-squamous cells that are sure sign of lung cancer. This is vital for current available treatments for non-squamous cancers are deadly to squamous cancer sufferers and vice versa. On the other hand, Italian researchers have devised a way by which oncologists can check for three genetic markers as determining factor of the best approach treatment is to take. This allows better diagnosis with treatment customized to individual patients giving the oncologist the best possible chances of success and the patient recovery. To determine the advancement of the disease greatly enhances our ability to treat and provide the best possible medical solutions for a particular disease. This for m of diagnosis is being tested out for other forms of cancer which can greatly increase survivability rates of sufferers. It may also aid scientists in providing better prevention drugs or through genetic analyses be able to say who is susceptible of what thus giving patients time to adjust their lifestyles to avoid contracting that form of the disease.

As with any disease, there are lots of myths surrounding the ability of a family member to develop the same form of disease. Some experts say there is no direct link to the said relation and your ability to get the same disease except perhaps for the same environmental factors which may be causing the disease to manifest in both of you. There is no solid scientific basis for cancer being inherited but it should be used as an indicator that you are susceptible to it. The size of breasts is also a point of contention for many claim that having large natural breasts are a sure sign of you being prone to getting breast cancer. Experts say there is also no medical foundation for the myth and that whatever size of breasts you may have; the best tool in the fight against cancer would be to get screened regularly. There are more myths regarding the disease and most are said to be just plain myth without scientific basis. The best tool for prevention and successful treatment is early detection which is the key.

Personal Religious Conundrum?

My mother is muslim but my father converted from christianity to islam to marry her. They have been married 21 years but there is an obvious chasm between their religious beliefs. Whilst my mother believes wholehearted that islam is the ‘true religion’, my father remains -atheist- at heart. The issue for me, is that I remain religiously open minded but admittedly atheist and cannot understand how someone favors one religious script over another – Eg, Bible over Koran or believe with such conviction, about things that cannot be authenticated or proved (but this is another issue). My father believes that it is right for me to make up my own mind about religion but my mother less so. My mother is deeply hurt by the fact that I cannot believe in islam, and torments herself by believing that she has failed as a mother due to this reason; Constantly saying she is dissappointed in me for ‘not seeing that islam is true’, and sometimes getting very hostile… On one hand I believe it morally wrong to pretend i believe in islam just to vindicate myself in her eyes, but on the other I believe it wrong not do so if it would stop causing my mother emotional pain. To complicate matters, she is in remission from breast cancer so i have to act with a certain amount of delicacy – it is only fair, she has been through a lot. I love her very much, and she loves me as well, the relationship is largely unscathed and remains strong yet this issue continues to chip away at it. Any thoughts on this from muslims especially, but also from anyone will be largely appreciated. Cheers!
