How impressive is it if an undergraduate received part- authorship in a Breast Cancer Research publishing?

I’m currently a third year and was wondering how this would stand-out for applying for professional schools (medical school)

I received a call from “Breast Cancer Charities”, is this a group?

I was told this would fund mammograms for women without insurance. I was asked if it was okay to send a pledge card and info in the mail. I said sure, gave my address and asked a question about participating in the program. I was never asked for financial info.

Fifteen minutes later, I get a call with curt questions from a noisy call center to verify my pledge, address and acceptance.

I agreed to accept info from a charity, in the mail, and asked for info. Why did I get a call from a “boiler room” verifying my address and then, the woman hung up? That makes me feel like it’s a scam.

I can’t find a “Breast Cancer Charities” group on the ‘net and I was not given a legit organization name. If this telemarketer is working for someone, why don’t they name the organization?

Has anyone else received a “no pressure” call from this group? The call was obviously from the phone book and I was only asked for an address.

I just want to know the originating charity, so I can research.
I did the search for “Breast Cancer Charites”, made some contacts and asked questions.

I’m just annoyed because I don’t want to have spend hours conducting research to determine if a charitable group is worthwhile and fiscally responsible.

I want to hit Google, load a name and learn they spend 2-3 percent on admin and the rest is spent wisely.

I’m not stupid. I’m just tired of “charities” that take in loads of money from well-meaning people, and it goes for salaries, parties, and expenses.

*cough* United Way…*ahem* Red Cross.

The Red Cross has collected millions and millions, and historically, they have charged survivors for water, ice, and necessities after hurricanes, in the US. After Andrew, I won’t give the Red Cross a dime! Maybe they give stuff away overseas after a disaster, but they SELL it, in the states.

It’s not a charity, it’s a business.

I’ve been told that I already received the max dose of radiation, doesn’t that mean I can never have it again?

I didn’t know there was a “max dose” until my treatment was complete. I received the max dose of radiation and it was concentrated in my pelvis for cervical cancer and nodes, but it also extended all the way up to my armpits because there were lymph nodes higher too and they were worried it had microscopically spread even higher, they were playing it safe they said by going higher than shown just to make sure nothing was missed. Now I am anxiously awaiting another PET scan in a week which will show if theres any activity, last scan showed a tiny speck on the cervix itself and if its still there I was told surgery is the only option. I asked why I couldn’t have radiation for just that spot and I was told that I can never have radiation again because I received the max dose, any more is toxic apparantly?

Can someone please explain this a little better?

I am worried, because now I am at increased risk for other cancers as well since I already had CC and I had radiation which increases risk. If I found cancer say, breast cancer, could I be treated with radiation for it? I am really worried that the over-compensation in the radiation may have cost me the chance to ever have radiation again if I need it. I am trying to remain calm about it but I think this is something that should have been discussed with me prior to giving me the max dose so I would understand the risks and benefits of getting the max dose and have some input on the decision making process.

What do you think of this E-mail I received?

MAY THE GOODNESS OF OUR LORD JESUS BE WITH YOU.

Dear beloved friend. I know that this letter may be a very big surprise to
you, I came across your email contact from my personal search and I
instructed the doctor here in this hospital to help me email you and I
believe that you will be honest to fulfill my final wish before I will
die.

I am Mrs. Celine Anderson, from LONDON, I am 58 years old, I am deaf
and suffering from a long time cancer of the breast, which also
affected my brain. From all indication my condition is really
deteriorating, and my doctors have courageously advised me that I may
not live beyond the next two months; this is because the cancer stage
has reached a critical stage. I was brought up in a motherless baby?s
home, and was married to my late husband for twenty years without a
child. My husband and I are true Christians, but quite unfortunately,
he died in a fatal motor accident.

Since his death I decided not to re-marry, I sold all my inherited
belongings and deposited all the sum of $3.2million dollars with a
Security Company. Presently, this money is still in their custody, and
the management just wrote me as the Legitimate beneficiary to come
forward to receive the money after keeping it for so long or rather
issue a letter of authorization to somebody to receive it on my behalf
since I can not come over as a result of my illness, or they get it
confiscated. Presently, I’m with my laptop in a hospital where I have
been undergoing treatment. I have since lost my ability to talk and my
doctors have told me that I have only a few months to live.

It is my last wish to see that this money is invested in any
organization of your choice and distributed each year among the charity
organization, the poor and the motherless baby?s home where I come
from. I want your good humanitarian, to also use this money to fund
churches, orphanages and widows around. I must let you know that this
was a very hard decision, but I had to take a bold step towards this
issue because I have no further option. I hope you will help see my
last wishes come true.

As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of the
Security Company. I will also issue you a letter of authority, which
will prove that you are the new beneficiary of my funds. Please assure
me that you will act accordingly as I stated herein. Hope to hear from
you soonest.

Awaiting your reply

Yours in Christ,

Mrs. Celine Anderson.

(Should I tell her I’m an atheist and the fact that she’s a “true” Christian really doesn’t sway me?
Hits funny how people think that saying you’re a Christian makes you more trustworthy some how.
Please! I know it’s a scam. I just think stuff like this gives Christians a bad name. What I’ve got to wonder is, are there really Christians that fall for this stuff?

Where can I get the Breast Cancer Awareness necklace Hoda received on Today show?

On Tuesday’s (9/30) Today Show, Kathie Lee Gifford gave Hoda Kotb a pink necklace in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Does anyone know where that necklace is available?

My girlfriend has Stage 3 breast cancer with it in her lymph nodes. She has received two doctor’s opinions.

Her primary physician at Kaiser stated she should do eight rounds of chemo and then surgery.

Her second opinion, a physician at the Cleveland Clinic, stated she should do four rounds of chemo, then surgery and then four more rounds of chemo.

Given we have our two opinions…and both physicians produced research as to why their opinion was the right one, what has been most successful to those of you who know someone at this stage?

I appreciate all responses!
